Nine Elms, London

Studio Tord Boontje approached Factory Furniture to look at some seating designs for the Riverside Gardens, Nine Elms. This new ‘pocket park’ is sited on the bank of the River Thames just west of Vauxhall Bridge. It is a spot where J.M.W. Turner regularly came to paint. The seating can be rotated, allowing the user freedom to choose one of the many beautiful views from the park. The seats can be enjoyed by individuals seeking some privacy or rotated to face each other for larger groups. The scheme includes three rotating seats with integral planters and two clusters of three rotating chairs.
The seats and chairs are made from corten steel and FSC cumaru wood. The rotating seats are planted with a selection of drought resistant, aromatic species.
